fleeting flattery

i was with one of the girls in our youth group at home depot monday. she’s painting our logo on our wall in our room and she needed help figuring out how much paint to get. so we’re standing in line at the contractor’s desk so we can put it on our church account. this guy comes up to me and says “excuse me” so i turn to him and he says “are you single?” i grinned and said, “No, I’m not”. he said, “Oh, I just wanted to tell you you are absolutely gorgeous.” i of course turn like bright red and smile and just say thanks and he walks away. that is the first and probably only time that has ever or will happen to me.

I’m still here

I’m still here. I keep putting off posting because it just seems like so much work to catch up. In a nutshell, I’ve been reading a lot, working on the youth group’s web site and went to the beach this past weekend. We had a blast.

On a side note, I’m watching AI and Blake is the best by far. I still love Chris S and Chris whatever but I hated Chris S’s Teletubbie comment.

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

I said last time something didn’t feel right. And it didn’t. And it hasn’t for awhile. It’s taken me over a year to get through some stuff. I’ve listened to several sermons on my iPod, at church this Sunday and read some stuff. And Revelation 3:19 kind of sums it up. God loves me and He wasn’t going to let me get away with the sins I was committing. He has spent much of this year rebuking me. It has been quite a struggle. But this weekend I’ve gotten to the point that not only are my actions going to change but my heart and mind need to also. So my prayer for this year is verse we used to repeat at my old church at the end of every service.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

What to do, what to do

I have money from Christmas that I don’t know what to do with. Actually, I do know what to do with it except I need about $4,000 more to do what I actually want to do. So I’m having a hard time figuring out WHICH thing to do with my money. I really want a new cell phone. Mine is the free one from Cingular that doesn’t do picture or music and is all scratched up now. But I really want the SLVR but can’t make myself spend $150 on it. I could just wait until my contract can be renewed until July and get a better discount but I don’t wanna wait! And I really need some new tennis shoes and I could get an FM receiver thing for my iPod. Or, I could go spend it all clothes shopping which would be way more fun. But then I wouldn’t have my shoes or my cell phone. Blah. What a problem to have. lol

Nice Christmas

So Christmas at Mom’s house was really nice last night. She had dinner ready for us when we got there. The kids weren’t interested in eating, just playing, which was actually made for an easy, quiet dinner. I’m really excited about the gifts I got and what Scott got because it benefits me too . We got our sheets for our bed, Grey’s Anatomy Season 2 on DVD (yay!), Mom made me my roman shades for my room, a set of cute washcloths, ornaments and Heather bought me a trivet with the girls’ picture on it and an Easy button from Staples (which I would never spend my $5 on-it was funny). And Scott got a coffee maker and a set of 3 cordless phones which we needed really bad. Our cordless in the kitchen you have to get a workout to push the On and 2 button. Heather said she bought more for her than us lol. So it was a nice evening. Emma and Joy played her new Memory game with Heather. Lexi and I laid up in Mom’s bed and watched Robots eating cheese and crackers until Scott said he was too tired and needed to go home. And can I mention that was at 8:30pm .

Weekend plans

So this weekend is Fall Festival at church. I really would rather go to the band competition in Atlanta with D this weekend. But I doubt that will happen. We officially have their costumes for this weekend though. Emma is Stephanie from Lazy Town. Pink wig and everything. Lexi will be Snow White. But I don’t know if she’ll actually wear the dress for very long. She can be kind of picky about fluffy stuff. Sometimes she’ll wear it for a long time and sometimes she has it on for a minute and wants it off. Hopefully it will work out. I also have our 3rd meeting with the girl from my bible study and a counselor. So my weekend is already getting full.

Day 1 of injury over

Ya’ll, this is going to be a long 6 weeks. Yeah, 6-8 weeks, not 4-6 weeks like I originally thought. I feel so bad for Scott. He’s really in pain. And honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen him in serious pain like this in the 12 years we’ve been together. But gosh, he can’t do too much. He needs help getting up from the couch, pulling the lever on the recliner, eating, drinking, getting his pills, getting all the remotes/phones for him, buttoning/zipping pants. Haven’t even tackled getting his shirt off and getting showered and dressed yet. As of now, I’m being a trooper (no pun intended!) but after 6 weeks of this?! I know this isn’t all about me but I’m going to need some prayers for some patience and compassion.

I know my posts are still pretty sporadic. This weekend was somewhat boring. Saturday we had a choir lunch and then my niece was in a pageant. She won a Sweetheart and Future Queen award. Sunday was Mom’s birthday and we went out to eat with them.

Sunday morning we only had 2 people in our Sunday School class. A little disheartening after all that work. But the two that were there that were smart girls that were easy to teach.

Tonight starts the girls bible study. I’m nervous as heck for some reason. Haven’t been nervous at all about Sunday School after I’ve gotten the lesson together. But today, I feel nervous. I think it’s because I’m not teaching, I’m more facilitating and I guess I’m nervous about having to keep everyone on point and talking about appropriate things. I really want the girls to participate and I guess I have to give up some control for that. It’s really a great group of girls that are supposed to come so even if we just chat for an hour, it should be good. Two more signed up Sunday night after two had cancelled on me so I was glad I wasn’t out of the money I had already paid.

We had massive drama at about midnight with one of the youth last night. It was our first “middle of the night” (I was still up watching 9-11 footage) experience since we’ve been youth leaders. I can’t really expound on the issue except that another youth leader who lives in the same neighborhood as the youth pastor had to go wake the youth pastor up because he could not be reached by phone. The police were called and in the end, nothing really happened except about 6 people didn’t get to sleep until 2am!

My BIL got a job Friday, he started today. Whoo Hoo!

9-11

Today is 5 years since 9-11. I still remember sitting at my desk downtown, thinking it was a small plane and not even guessing it could be terrorism. I called Scott and said, did you hear about that plane that hit that building in New York? Honestly, I wasn’t even extremely familiar with the buildings. I of course had seen them and knew about them but the extent of their importance and significance did not dawn on me. I remember people at work moving to a conference room to watch and one girl crying when the building came down.

And today, they replayed that same footage I watched. And it all felt like a horrible movie. How much they didn’t know!!! At that exact moment that the buildings were burning and then falling, two more planes were in the air getting ready to do more damage. At that moment, the guys on the plane were calling their family and 911 operators were answering calls about planes the media didn’t even know about. How helpless I felt watching it over again. I saw the people walking from the cloud of dust and I wanted to scream Run! You need to Run!

It’s just horrible watching it all again. Of course new tapes talk about new plots. And that gives you a whole other sense of hopelessness and helplessness. I can’t but selfishly hope it never affects me or anyone I know but I also know it will affect someone and I feel so horrible for them. I pray for all the family and friends of those already affected and Lord help, pray for anything else this country has to go through.
